Structure
Initial Certification
The ACCRS and ACRB with the consensus of the Delphi process has developed multiple levels of attainment. These levels are broken down into module. Each module may exceed one (1) year of study. (Rationale: The amount of topic and protocol in each module is in‑depth. Also the modules are affected by each other.)
All levels of successful completion will be registered by the ACRB.
Items
The items are criteria‑referenced content from topic material. The items are arranged in topic groups from the likely understandable to the more difficult thought process. (Rationale: To maintain continuity of the candidate is thought process and to afford the candidate areas for quick recall.)
Format and Number
The format will be one hundred (100) items of multiple choice for each of the testing levels. Each item will consist of a question with one correct answer and three distracters. (Rationale: This is the minimum amount of items that could challenge a candidate, given the in-depth amount of material.)
Form
The multiple choice examinations for all levels will be performed on a computer when possible, or fixed pen or pencil corrected by computer. (Rationale: This is to increase test security, along with expediting the passing or failing to the candidate on the same day.)
Time
The time of the test will be two hours. (Rationale: This is to afford the candidate parody with each and every other candidate.)
Advanced Certification
The ACCRS and the ACRB has advanced certification for diplomate status. (Rationale: This module is a compilation of multiple levels of completion, with emphasis on administration, supervision, and conduction of facility personnel and facilities.)
Diplomate certification candidates must have successfully completed all ACRB levels. (Rationale: Conformity process for challenging competency in all levels.)
Writing Requirements
The applicants must have an article “accepted for publication without revision” in a peer reviewed journal prior to or at least 18 months post successful completion of the non-written oral examination to receive diplomate status. For applicants that cannot provide the Board proper documentation from a peer reviewed publisher of an article “accepted for publication without revision” within the 18 month deadline will be required to re-take the non-written oral practical at full exam fee. The applicant will must have an article “accepted for publication without revision” 18 months following successful completion on the new exam date. (Rationale: This is a recognized method of authorship in an area of mastery and affords the applicant coordination of final requirements.)
Non-Written Oral Practical
The ACRB has determined through consensus the need for a candidate to demonstrate competence through this manner. This is necessary for the attainment of mastery level. This non-written oral performance‑based examination is both a process practical to demonstrating procedures as well as orating for discussion. (Rationale: Mastery levels should conform to protocols as closely as possible.)
The non-written oral practical examination will consist of an evaluation of the a candidate by designated Board testers based on the candidate’s clinical documents along with their ability to demonstrate reason and rational in use of this paper documents in the design, demonstrate and explanation of a treatment plan per a designated case study given by the tester and their ability to make progressive clinical decision in all phases of rehabilitative care based on treatment plan outcomes with final instruction.
Content
The content of the non‑written oral examination will be to demonstrate and orate all components of a clinical case study provided by the Board examiners.
Topics
The applicant will demonstrate and orate all components to the clinical case study presented to them. The Board examiner will judge by the quality and content of the applicant’s response regarding the given clinical case study.
The ACRB has developed a standardized format for this examination which all applicant have access to prior to testing. For each major topic covered in the standardized format, the ACRB has predetermined qualitative point values per each component for each topic area. The applicants score will reflect the accumulation of these points to a maximum of 100 points.
(Rationale: Standardized testing for to the fair assessment of the applicant as related to clinical competency.)
Re‑certification and Adoption of Continual Competence
The ACCRS and the ACRB through consensus has developed a yearly re-certification program to be performed by all ACRB level providers and diplomats towards the continuation of current topics in their discipline and domain.
Recertifying will consist of an ACRB level or diplomate rehabilitation doctor paying the ACRB predetermined annual dues in the spring of each year. Once dues are received by the ACRB office an access code and multiple choice questions will be sent to the doctor both to be used in the recertification process. The access code will allow the doctor the ability to gain access to the recertification articles posted on the acrb.org website. Once the articles have been reviewed the multiple choice questions pertaining to the posted articles must be completed and the doctor’s answers sent back to the ACRB home office for grading. A score of at least 75% must be obtained on the multiple choice questions. Once all of these steps have been accomplished the doctor will have completed their yearly recertification requirement. The ACRB will contact those doctors that do not meet the 75% cut score.
(Rationale: Directory of the individuals' name, state, and phone number will be created by March 1st of each year. Compliance and expedition are needed to complete the directories.)
Registry
The registry will be posted on the acrb.org for access to the public. Only those ACRB level providers and diplomates that are of “active status” will be posted. T maintain active status you individual must be compliant will all requirement of all standards, policies and procedures of the ACRB and ACCRS. (Rationale: To provide a register of active individuals who are current in continual competence and free from suspension or revocation at any ACRB level provider or diplomate. This will be available for all stakeholders.)
